Ice Tool PETZL Quark

The new PETZL Quark Ice hand is versatile. It is mainly intended for technical alpine climbing and ice climbing. This ice hand has a modular design that allows for adaptation depending on the type of activity. Despite its very low weight, QUARK has an optimal dense impact. It has a very good balance of the ICE tool and beak, which allows precise dazzling in any kind of ice. Thanks to the profile of the beak and the space below it, the pinching of the beads is much more efficient. Thanks to the GRIPREST support at the bottom of the handle and the thumb TRIGREST, the handle for the tool is extremely comfortable and stable. QUARK is available in hammer and blade variant. From tower to very difficult ice routes, passing through frozen waterfalls with QUARK can go beyond your limits.

Features:

  • Modular design for adaptation of the tool according to the activity and the situation
  • Equipped with hammer, TRIGREST movable thumb and GRIPREST support (if necessary, a blade can be mounted on the tool)
  • Without any accessories, the QUARK tool weighs just 460 g
  • The removable bead ICE is thinned at the end (3 mm) to easily penetrate into the toughest ice. Its profile allows for stable attachment both on ice and rock
  • Cast ergonomic handle, allowing comfortable grip even with small hands, with cold isolation. The bottom of the handle is ideally suited to the snow when the ice is used as a "cane" (without the GRIPREST support)
  • Carabiner hook under the GRIPREST support
  • TRIGREST thumb for index finger (easy to adjust without tool). The upper part of the element has an edge and allows for easy handshake. The lower part of this element is used to support the pointer for more comfortable holding of the tool, and the precision of the impact is better. This thumb also serves to "unlock" the TRIGREST element if you want to move it up or down

More information:

  • About dry-tooling climbing - Dry-tooling and classic alpine and ice routes
  • Modern dry-tooling climbs heavy inventory, especially tools. Horizontal twisting of the beak, use of the tool as a lever to reverse grip, dropping of the tools and shocks in the ground, etc. can all provoke internal invisible damages that negatively affect the strength of the tool.
  • Dry ice-climbing glaciers should only be used with dry tooling and require special attention: whenever you go to climb somewhere, check all parts of the tool from the beak to the handle.
  • Above all, do not go on alpine routes (climbing in the mountains, frozen waterfalls) with the tools you use for dry-tooling. The fatigue caused by the loads on which the tool has been subjected may cause the tools to break at an inappropriate time: while climbing to unreliable points, while climbing long ropes (from several ropes), etc.
